SUSTAINABILITY

Health, safety and sustainability

We strive to have a positive impact on our operations, the environments where we operate, and the communities we serve. Sustainability and creating positive outcomes are integral to our business practices. Our approach is founded on prioritizing efficiency over waste and taking accountability for our actions.

Paul Coward, Head of Safety and Sustainability, Trident Energy Management Ltd

“Sustainability is more than a commitment: It guides our actions and thinking every day.

Sustainability approach

We focus on the issues and topics that are material to our business, and matter most to our stakeholders – our employees, local communities, investors and credit providers, supply chain, governments, regulators and industry bodies. We take necessary actions to ensure we operate in a safe, responsible, efficient, and credible manner.

Climate change and environment

Our strategy seeks to deliver environmental impact at three levels: Reducing our own impact, enabling people to reduce their impact, and helping scale solutions across our supply chain.

The core ambition is to manage the carbon intensity of our mid-life assets and minimize the environmental impact of our operations. We also aim to protect, manage or restore natural ecosystems.

Key commitments

  • Reduce our carbon intensity by 50% across our operations by 2030 (from 2021 baseline)
  • Achieve ongoing absolute emissions reductions
  • Identify and abate every leak
  • Embed all Task force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations
  • Identify potential opportunities to conserve and enhance biodiversity where we operate and action where possible.
  • Reduce routine flaring reduction across all operations

People, communities and partnerships

We believe that true sustainability goes beyond our operations. That is why we aim to be an active and caring member of the communities we operate in, invest and nurture local supply chains, employ and empower local workforce, and stimulate local economies. By partnering with organizations and nonprofits, our community programs are designed to provide resources and opportunities to help move people and communities forward.

Cultivating Partnerships
We believe in partnerships with our key stakeholders to stay impactful. This begins by being on the ground and being part of the local community.

Key commitments

  • Deliver impactful community, infrastructure and capacity building programs based on our four social investment themes: Education, livelihood development, health and sanitation and biodiversity conservation.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with local supply chains and vendors to contribute to the local economy and improve work practices, systems and tools.
  • Meet local employment targets in country and provide skills and development training.

Caring for our workforce

Create an environment where our people feel safe, respected, engaged and empowered to develop, grow and unlock their potential.

Key commitments

Safety

Safety is our number one priority at Trident Energy. Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and communities.

Our goal is a zero accident, zero incident workplace. To achieve this and make safety an everyday reality, we reinforce a strong safety culture and performance onshore and offshore, implementing measures designed to improve safety performance, prevent avoidable incidents and support physical health and mental wellbeing. Everyone plays an active role in creating and preserving a safe and healthy workplace.

Key commitments

Governance

Strong governance and effective risk management are essential. Our long-term success hinges on transparent and ethical practices, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws in the regions we operate within.

At Trident Energy, treating people with fairness, dignity, and respect along with maintaining ethical standards throughout our supply chain are fundamental values that are upheld through our policies and reinforced through our actions.

Modern slavery

We are dedicated to conducting our business with ethical standards and integrity, ensuring that human rights are respected and upheld in all areas of our operations. We have established and enforce robust systems and controls to prevent modern slavery within our business and supply chains, in compliance with our disclosure obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Equal opportunities

Employment at Trident Energy is based solely on a person’s merit and qualifications. We are committed to providing equal employment opportunity regardless of sex, age, race, color, national origin, religion, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, citizenship, veteran or military status, and other legally protected characteristics.

Why mid-life assets matter in the energy transition

We acquire assets with significant potential and extend their lifespan. With this responsibility, we are committed to operating and delivering value in a responsible, safe, and sustainable manner. We achieve this through four key approaches:

  • Enhancing efficiency

We refresh and renew infrastructure to make it safer, more efficient and have a lower environmental footprint.

  • Sustainable reinvestment

By reinvesting in existing resources, we reduce the environmental cost of new exploration.

  • Community-centred operations

Global in outlook, local in practice. Our strong relationships with communities and partners are designed to add long-term value to the regions where we work.

  • Decommissioning

Decommissioning oil and gas infrastructure no longer in use is a key element of the energy transition. We have been delivering a successful decommissioning program since 2022 in Brazil, with strong safety and environmental performance. See case study for more details.
