CASE STUDY

Building water wells for Equatorial Guinea

Background

Access to clean and safe water in Equatorial Guinea is a significant challenge, especially in rural and isolated communities. In 2024, it was estimated that only 66% of the total population had access to drinking water, with this figure dropping to 30% in rural areas. This lack of access has led to the persistent spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and malaria.

Trident Energy's role

We collaborated with local communities, contractors, and the government to fund and construct water wells across Equatorial Guinea. This initiative aims to provide safe drinking water and improve overall public health.

Outcome

In 2024, we successfully built nine water wells: five in the Insular Region of Malabo and four in the Continental Region in Bata. These wells now provide safe drinking water to 337,500 beneficiaries. Since our operations began in Equatorial Guinea, we have constructed a total of 24 water wells, positively impacting approximately 900,000 people.

Margarita Mangue, President of the Mibang II community

“The village and I are very happy  and grateful for the generous gesture. Before the installation of our new well, we were forced to travel long distances in search of water. Now, we have access to clean water.”
