In 2017, MA-15 was suspended with plans to be abandoned by the previous operator following a failure of the ESP (electrical submersible pump) and unsuccessful attempts to produce from the well using gas-lift. On further review of the previous operator’s data and reports after the asset acquisition, Trident Energy discovered there were several other issues including a suspected blockage of the formation safety valve. Following a deeper analysis from the offshore team, a topside survey revealed that many parts were missing. This included shut-off valves (SDV), chokes and instrumentation not in place, a non-operational hydraulic panel with unidentified subsea control lines and flowlines with pinholes. A horror story for some, a challenge for Trident Energy.
The P08 platform team embarked on a mission to unlock the untapped potential and began to deliver all the topside refurbishments, recycling only existing materials on site. After this was completed, subsea exploration commenced with remotely operated vehicle (ROV) assistance.
The next stage saw the recovery of the subsea wellhead control and several flushes performed with the gas lift to unblock hydrates in the flowline. A hydrate disassociation procedure was initiated using methanol and depressurizing all lines.
