Vision care in Brazil for visually impaired children
Background
In Macaé, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, access to affordable, quality eye care is a challenge. With a shortage of medical specialists, many of the population experience untreated vision issues and, in some cases, preventable blindness.
Trident Energy's role
We worked with Casa do Abraço, an independent charity based in Macaé, which provides care and support to young people to help change this. We partnered with a popular glasses retail company to conduct a series of vision tests and pay for the glasses of those in need.
Outcome
Following the exam, over 20 children were able to receive prescription glasses free of charge.
Professionals noted that without these glasses, some of the children would have needed corrective surgery, a procedure they could ill afford.
Recipient’s parent
“A special thank you to Trident Energy for enabling our children to see better. If it wasn’t for this initiative, I would never have discovered that my son has glaucoma despite visiting several ophthalmologists!
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
