Introduction

As an organisation, we see acting sustainably as a business imperative.

Indeed, we believe sustainable businesses are better businesses: they are built on efficiency rather than waste, fairness rather than short-term gain, and accountability for the actions they take.

We are committed to creating positive outcomes through our operations. In the Trident Energy Sustainability Report 2022, we outline the work carried out throughout the year and the good progress we have made towards reducing our carbon intensity by 50% by 2030.

Health, safety and environment

Safety at Trident Energy is non-negotiable. No commercial or practical consideration is ever allowed to override the well-being of employees, citizens or the environment.

We ensure that our people are fully trained for what they do, and are equipped with the right tools and protection to do it safely. However, we are never complacent and continuously review our operations and refresh our training and communications.

Similarly, we are rigorous about our procedures to protect the environment. Naturally we comply with all local legislation, and indeed exceed it.

A trusted local partner

At Trident, we believe in partnerships: with our host governments, with the people and suppliers we employ, and with local communities.

This begins by being on the ground. Trident’s project teams, together with their families, relocate in-country and become part of the local community.

Our operations provide high-quality employment for local people, and we invest in them with training to develop their skills. Where possible, we try to buy goods and services locally and deliver further benefits to the local economy.

Water wells
Funding the drilling of water wells continues to be one of our initiatives with the highest impact in Equatorial Guinea.

Community programmes

Community programmes are fundamental to our operations, and in Equatorial Guinea we invest in the region of $1.1m a year supporting local projects.

We favour a tripartite approach, with the company, the state authorities and the local people all pooling effort, time, skills and investment to create vibrant programmes that benefit us all.

These include
  • A $750,000 a year community involvement programme supporting schools, healthcare, skills development and infrastructure improvements.
  • A contribution to the national institute for technology, in partnership with other energy companies, to train young people over a seven-year programme in the skills needed to work in the energy industry.

We appreciate the needs of the countries in which we operate and their communities can change, so we always remain flexible and able to adapt our yearly investments if that is what is needed. The more recent examples include supporting the local governments during the COVID-19 pandemic and aiding the Bata community in the aftermath of the 7th March explosions in 2021.

As well as solar powered water wells, we also fund infrastructure and capacity building programmes.
We are part of our host communities, both physically – our teams and their families live there – and financially. In Equatorial Guinea we are significant and constant investors in sustainable education, healthcare, skills and the protection of the environment.
