Trident Energy stands with the city of Bata after the tragic blast on 7th March 2021
On 7th March 2021 tragedy struck the city of Bata in Equatorial Guinea (EG). The city was severely affected by a series of explosions at an ammunition depot of the Nkoantoma Military Camp.
The shock waves from the blasts caused great damage to almost all the buildings and homes in the city. Unfortunately, at least 109 people were killed, and hundreds were injured.
As a member of the Bata community, at Trident Energy we have been incredibly shocked and saddened by this incident and we extend all our thoughts to all affected as we move through the process of grieving and healing.
We have been encouraged and moved by the way Equatorial Guinean people have pulled together in this time of crisis. The actions of the emergency services, NGOs, and communities, as well as the support provided by both national and international companies, are testament to the enormous capacity for individual and collective solidarity in this country.
We would like to address our thanks to everyone helping and contributing to try to alleviate the pain of those who were affected. Their hard work and commitment during this challenging time, and while the pandemic continues to evolve, has made and continues to make a massive difference.
Trident Energy is committed to doing all it can to support its employees, contractors and communities in the city of Bata.
Together with our employees and alongside our shareholders, we focus on immediate actions and reconstruction. So far we have…
- Donated essential items to local communities including Santo Angel, Saleciano and Remar orphanages;
- in a joint donation with AMPCO, EG LNG and Marathon Oil, provided two containers full of water, beds and medicines to assist the agencies that are part of the National Emergency Committee; and
- created a solidarity fund to help our employees and contractors affected by the blast
Once again, in these moments of pain and grief, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the families and to all the people who have lost a loved one, and we wish those injured a prompt and healthy recovery.
